As the year comes to a close, the intensity of the spring sports season heightens. One team in particular, Varsity Women’s Softball, is currently experiencing a small bump in their spectacular season, as an opposing team refuses to play on the Head-Royce field. The team, Ferndale High, says that due to the fields having a pitching mound (which is technically illegal in softball), they are refusing to play. Coach Blakely, who is in charge of resolving this conflict, noted that, “In the softball rulebook, it is technically illegal to have a pitching mound, although the effect i has on the game is close to nothing.” The School, pressed for time, searched for another venue to possibly have the game. Changing fields, however, would prevent the team from having home field advantage in one of their last and most important games. The only alternative was to rent a small bulldozer and remove the pitching mound, which was done today only hours before the start of the game. Come out at 4pm and support your Jayhawks!
