We have all been Freshmen at some point, and it was an entirely different environment than middle school. We did not know where our classes were, or the workload that was waiting for us. Especially if we are new to the School, it is overwhelming for freshmen. To help prepare myself and others for the rest of our Freshmen year, I asked some of the seniors for advice.

I first spoke to Senior Marcus Lefkovits regarding balancing your time between sports and academics as a freshman. He believed that, “In balancing athletics and academics, you get your time management in order…make sure you get things done before you play really hard games and hard practices.”

He also talked about any free time you might have. “Also, downtime before practice is an excellent time to get things done when you still have energy because when you go home you’re not going to want to do it. See what else you can do in class. As a student athlete, you don’t really have time like other students, so whenever you have a free period or any time in class to do your work, use it wisely because you will never get that time back.”

Senior Kate Conner also had advice for Freshmen on trying new things, saying, “Take this first year to adjust to being in high school, whether it be academically or socially. It is a great opportunity to put yourself out there and try new things!”

She goes on to explain,” For example, get involved with a club you wouldn’t normally consider, or sign up for a sport. Also take some deep breaths and be kind to yourself, especially in the times when homework piles up, or you have a really difficult exam. You will get through it and be okay.”
