It is easy to think that there is simply nothing to do this holiday season. With the pandemic in full effect and a mandatory lockdown looming over us, having a fun winter break while confined to our homes seems impossible! However, just because we will not be headed to the ice skating rink does not mean this winter has to be boring. Here is a quick list of the top seven things you can do during a quarantined winter break.

  1. Start a new hobby! Giving season is just around the corner, and starting a creative hobby to DIY (do it yourself) some festive gifts is a perfect way to spend the break! Knitting, sewing, plant cultivation, baking, or painting are all great ways to make something cool for friends and family. Sew a festive plush, knit a scarf, or plant a succulent—one wonderful way to spend the break!
  2. Have a movie marathon! Be it winter classics like It’s a Wonderful Life or the latest releases, pop the popcorn, make some cocoa, and binge. Gather your family to watch something on the downstairs television, or call your friends up for a digitally-distanced movie night. Cast is a wonderful streaming site that allows you to share movies with friends digitally!
  3. A delightful drive around the neighborhood to view who’s gone really extra this year with lights is a quarantined holiday must. Whether you have put up your own lights or not, hop in the car and take a slow drive to see what your neighbors have done to decorate. Be on the lookout for the best among them, and debate with family members on who has the most intricate display!
  4. One word: cookies! While baking was already mentioned above, making and sharing holiday cookies with family is unbeatable when it comes to sharing the holiday spirit. Be creative with your decorations, from delicate snowflakes to festive reindeer. Invite your siblings and parents! Have a family contest for who can make the cutest cookie, and take plenty of photos.
  5. Organize a game night. Break out the Catan, and get ready to furiously yell at your sibling when they completely ruin you in their last turn. Be it Poker, Go Fish, or something else, a game night is always a welcomed event during a quarantined winter.
  6. Make a Christmas playlist on Spotify and listen to it on repeat until Christmas morning. Include all the hits, jam out alone in your room, play it during a Christmas gathering, or play it with your family. Remember: Christmas music is excellent year round, so you better save it! Expos has put out a wonderful Spotify playlist for your convenience, make sure to check out our website to get access!
  7. Create the most elaborate, hilarious, and festive family photoshoot you can with your family. Pose outside with your masks, do a Zoom photoshoot, or something else representative of this holiday season. Make some custom cards to display, or hang up a framed version!
