What is the Met Gala? The Met Gala is a fundraising event where models, fashion designers, actors, musicians, and Hollywood Stars dress in the year’s most avant garde looks with respect to the annual theme. This year, the theme was American Independence. Here are some of the notable outfits from the 2021 Met Gala:

1. Billie Eilish

Twinning goals, but who’s who? Billie Eilish, an acclaimed singer and songwriter, wore a gorgeous pink ballgown to the Met (pictured in the left photo). The dress was a beautiful modern spin on Marylin Monroe’s classic look (right photo). The blonde bob and bold red lipstick perfected the replication of one of America’s most timeless actresses. Billie’s look was both on theme and stunning.

2. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC)

Who wore it better?AOC, a representative for New York’s congressional district, wore this intriguing dress to the Met Gala. While AOC’s look was bold, the dress strongy resembled a Chick-Fil-A bag. The message AOC sent was on theme, but overall the dress was not really to my pleasure. But Chick-Fil-A should pay her for the free press.

3. Lupita Nyong’o

Who knew a denim dress could be so chic?! Lupita Nyong’o, an actress well known for her performance as Nakia in Black Panther, wore a shimmery dress made of the American fashion staple, denim. The pearl necklace was a lovely touch which added to the theme as well. Overall, I think she wore a gorgeous, American-inspired outfit.

4. Ciara Wilson

What’s more American than football?! Ciara Wilson, renowned singer, songwriter, model, and businesswoman, wore a shimmery lime green dress that matched the jersey of her husband, Russel Wilson, quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks football team. I adore everything about this dress: the color, the sparkles, the cut-outs, and how it matches the Seahawks jersey.

5. Pharell Williams and Helen Lasichanh

Cowboy meets FBI agent: who is the genius who thought of that?! Married couple, Pharrell Williams, a famous singer and music producer, and Helen Lasichanh, a well known model, wore these all-black, western-inspired looks that set high expectations for the Gala. The leather and sunglasses add a modern twist to the wild west era. Williams and Lasichanh’s outfits were sleek, fashionable, and resembled the American theme.

6. Kendall Jenner

Two icons and two beautiful dresses! Kendall Jenner (pictured in the left photo), a prominent model, wore this stunning, sheer, silver dress to the Met. The dress was inspired by one of America’s most admired actresses, Audrey Hepburn (right photo), best known for starring in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The dress was gorgeous in every way, shape, and form, and showcased the theme of the night.
