As the 2021 MLB season comes to a close, the San Francisco Giants are looking to win it all. The Giants currently have the best record in baseball with 94 wins and only 50 losses. The next best two teams in the league, the Rays, and the Brewers, don’t even have 90 wins. Some teams can only wish they had 50 wins. On September 13th, the Giants became the first team in the MLB to have secured their spot in the postseason, after their recent win over the San Diego Padres. 2.5 games above the Dodgers, the Giants refuse to lose and will not let the Dodgers tighten that gap. Even though the Dodgers got the biggest success out of the trade deadline with future hall of fame pitcher Max Scherzer, and the young speedster in Trea Turner, the Giants continue on their hot streak, not letting the threats of the newcomers get in their way. Former Cal Bear, and MIT grad Farhan Zaidi (Giants President of Baseball Ops.), has been doing an amazing job keeping the Giants healthy and making sure they play to the best of their abilities. Not only has he seen his team win all year and never slow down, but he also continues to build up the farm system, which is ranked 8th among all MLB teams. Although the team isn’t filled with many young stars, the veterans have been showing out this year, with the best example being Buster Posey. At 34 years old, he has 17 bombs and manages to slash .300/.391/.503, while also keeping a pretty solid BB/K ratio (50/78). Players like Crawford, Belt, and Wade Jr. are also excelling. The new addition from the Chicago Cubs, Kris Bryant, has had an above-average stunt with the Giants since he got picked up at the trade deadline. Pitchers like Gausman, Webb, and DeSclafani have been absolutely dominating their starts on the bump. With a 2.65, 2.80, and 3.33 era respectively, these Giants pitchers have been minimizing opponent’s runs all year long. Let’s hope the orange and black keep that winning feeling alive in the playoffs and come out on top!
