This year’s highly anticipated prom promises to be a night of glamor, excitement, and breathtaking views as the event is set to unfold at the Overlook at Port Workspaces, one of the East Bay’s largest and most captivating event venues. Perched on a rooftop in Uptown Oakland, the venue offers a stunning panoramic view of Lake Merritt, creating an enchanting backdrop for an unforgettable evening.
Junior Audrey Jayasekera, a dedicated member of the prom committee, shared insights into the meticulous planning that has already begun to make this year’s event extraordinary. “Things are coming along well and fairly smoothly with working around the budget. We’ve booked a beautiful venue that we visited and the DJ from the Valentine’s dance who people seemed to love, and we’re looking at some wonderful catering options.” Jayasekera further adds to the intrigue by hinting at some extra decorations, including a photo booth.
The chosen venue and theme have already garnered excitement among the seniors. Ishmael Gossett-Salahudeen expressed his enthusiasm for the location, saying, “I’m excited for the theme, the decorations, and especially for the venue, as it’s in Oakland. I love that it’s going to be really close, so it’ll be easy to Uber!” Fellow senior Tara Pabla shared similar sentiments, stating, “I’ve heard that the venue is really pretty, so I’m excited to be there and excited for the scenery.”
Adding to the allure, this year’s prom is set to have an interstellar theme. The venue being on an open rooftop adds an extra touch. As the sun sets, casting a warm glow over Lake Merritt, attendees will be treated to a breathtaking sight. After capturing a sufficient number of sunset pictures, the stars will come out to play, creating a celestial backdrop to surround us, and giving the evening a truly intergalactic feel.
The Overlook at Port Workspaces provides an ideal setting for an elegant and memorable prom night. The combination of the venue’s size and its elevated location ensures that attendees will be treated to a breathtaking view of Oakland, and that the night will be a satisfactory culmination of the upperclassmen’s hard work throughout the year.
With careful planning, a stunning backdrop, and the promise of fun and excitement, this year’s prom is shaping up to be a memorable first for juniors and a heartfelt last prom for the class of 2024.
