In an exciting development for our school’s athletic program, the weight room is undergoing a much-anticipated renovation that is set to finish at the beginning of the summer.
Taking a trip down memory lane, the School’s Athletic Director, Coach Brendan Blakeley, shared how our original weight room was snuggled within what is now Bill’s office when the School was considerably smaller in the 90s. Over the years, our student body has grown. As a result, the weight room found a new home within a classroom. Now, since our school’s student body is on the rise and our athletic program is becoming increasingly competitive, the need for superior equipment to support our student-athletes has become evident.
Coach Blakeley detailed the variety of enhancements intended for the weight room: “We bought a lot more hand weights, dumbbells, kettlebells, and slam balls which are fun. The two big components––Olympic Style racks and a dual cable pulley”. Another addition is in the form of a sliding door which “brings in natural light and also opens accordion style”, allowing Athletes to utilize the indoor area and also the amphitheater during their workouts.
One particularly exciting aspect is the potential introduction of a dedicated strength and conditioning coach who can offer their guidance and expertise during afternoon sessions. Coach Blakeley emphasized the pivotal role of strength and conditioning in improving health and injury prevention of our athletes, underscoring a broader benefit for all students.
However, with progress towards our athletic facilities comes responsibility. Coach Blakeley revealed plans to implement mandatory strength and conditioning sessions for future athletes during the off-season. The new plan aims to foster a culture of physical preparedness which will prepare our student-athletes with a physical advantage to excel in their respective sports.
When we reach the completion of the project, our school community eagerly anticipates the unveiling of a new weight room that not only symbolizes our commitment to athletic excellence but also a care for the general well-being of our student body. With each rep and stride, the School’s students march towards a future defined by strength, resilience, and unlimited physical potential.
